Our Derby Dream

The countdown is on to the best day of racing in the country and we couldn’t be more excited to have a runner in the main race.

He Is, a Derby contender for this year’s AMMI Victoria Derby will carry the hopes and dreams of many into the race and give his owners the thrill of a lifetime.

With the excitement building until the barriers open, He Is was the first horse purchased by Jewel Racing, as well as being the first horse to win, and race at Group 1 level.

“We syndicated two horses in the first year, so to allow 50% of Jewel Racing clients the opportunity to be racing as an owner in a Group 1 on the best day of racing in the country is pretty special,” said Cara Kavanagh.

“We understand that he has had a few luckless lead-up runs, but we have decided that he shows enough talent to push on to the Derby.”

“He is a beautiful colt, so relaxed and very handsome. He is quite a character as well, he loves to have his tongue tickled.”

Trained by Mark Kavanagh, He Is is in good hands. With 21 Group 1 victories, and countless other group and listed successes, Mark will ensure that He Is is at his best come 3.45pm Saturday afternoon.

“Mark knows how to produce a Group 1 level horse that is competitive, and with that knowledge, we are thrilled that he decided to accept and have a go.”

“On these big days anything can happen, and with the race run over 2500 metres, it is a gruelling test of stamina in three-year-old’s so early in the season. We have faith that Mark will have him fit and ready, and with the addition of blinkers, we are hoping to see He Is adopt a more positive position in the running, and be right there in the finish.”
